As a creative person, you suffer from creative block. New ideas don’t come and making anything at all feels like swimming through molasses. This only adds to your sense of failure.
You limp on, but every day is harder. It’s harder to get out of bed, harder to attend to commitments, harder to care about anything or anyone, including yourself.
You want it to end. Your spirit threatens to shatter under an immense load of bad thoughts, feelings, or events.
What doesn’t kill you doesn’t always make you stronger.
Find below 8 things to do when you feel like giving up
1. Ask Yourself why
It always starts with ‘why.’ Occasionally, we start with one vision in mind and end up moving so far away from why we started a business, job or relationship in the first place that we end up lost and questioning our decisions and actions.
Maybe you can’t remember the last time you were happy. Perhaps your big colorful picture of where you wanted to head has slowly turned to black and white. Get back that clarity! Every 90 days revisit your big ‘why’ to ensure you’re on track and achieving what you want.
It’s easy to lose the big picture in the busy everyday life.
Make sure you have your whys written down; If you feel like giving up, then try reconnecting with why you are doing what you are doing.
2. Learn To Feel Uncomfortable
Life is not easy nor is it meant to be. We are always facing hurdles and obstacles that we must overcome, which is all part of the journey. If you can accept that things will get tough and it won’t always be roses and sweet-smelling kittens, you’ll get yourself better prepared for what’s to come.
Getting abreast with discomforting situations also strengthens you for tough happenings ahead. Psych your mind and know that there will be times and situations that things will not feel good to your being.
3. Win Through Persistence
Winston Churchill said, “If you have an important point to make, don’t try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time – a tremendous whack.” Persistence is the key if you want to win.
Feeling like giving up many times through your entrepreneurial journey is very normal; however persistence to make things happen is what will keep you going.
Understanding and truly believing that persistence delivers results will keep you moving forward. Find the motivation within you and press on.
4. Share Your Goals
Find an ‘accountability buddy’ to keep you on track. Sure, this is scary, but it ensures you deliver on your promise to yourself. Make sure the other person will show you some tough love. This will keep you honest and continually taking action.
It is always necessary to surround yourself with positive people.
5. Acknowledge Challenges
Being realistic, yes, there will be tough times – but you already know this. When you feel like giving up because it’s too tough, it’s not a surprise as you knew the journey wouldn’t be full of rainbows and bunnies. Acknowledge the challenge, embrace it, learn what you can and power on!
Don’t pay attention to those whose talk don’t allows no mistakes or failures, or those with the quick results. Listening to the people who have already gone where you want to go.
Listen to the people who know what works and how you will stumble and fail along the way and can tell you how long your journey may take.
It may not be the same story as yours; but the things people can tell you in person or via books and blogs can be a great guidance.
Remember it is always darkest before dawn.
6. Learn more and course-correct.
Reconnecting with the basics often works well. But sometimes during a rough patch or when you feel stuck it is always helpful to change course outlines slightly instead.
To examine how to do things, what results they bring in and to compare it to how people who have gone before me have done things.
Being honest with yourself and admitting that one or two things or some small parts of the work at hand needs change; is a great way to make progress and keep up
Replace those things for a while – based on what others have done in the past – and see if that works better.
When you feel stuck, reset and revisit your goals. A simple readjustment and a brief ‘time out’ can dramatically move you forward like you never thought possible.
Even if it means that you have to get out of my comfort zone.
7. Get Happy
We all get in a bad mood every now and again. That’s just the way we’re built. Negative emotions are a part of us. But, instead of poo-pitying yourself, get happy!
Think back to the last time you were really thriving in your life. Think about what you were doing and make that happen again!
Appreciate your effort on how far you’ve come. Play some music, go out; anything you do to get excited and switch that mood to a happy one.
8. Be Proud
Celebrate your victories. The beauty and great plans and actions you have taken
Be proud of where you have come from and what you’ve achieved. Every 90 days, review the last three months, and soak up your achievements no matter how small they are.
The next time you feel like giving up, ask yourself if you’ve done everything possible in your current situation to maximize the opportunity. Have you had all the experiences?; The knowledge, happiness and pain associated with what you want to achieve? If the answer is no, then keep going until you have!
