President Akuffo-Addo has charged Ghanaian to refrain from using the coronavirus that he describes as “medical conundrum” as a subject matter of ill-judged politics.
Delivering his 4th State of The Nation Address in parliament Thursday, the president said that the government has measures in place to help control situation especially with respect the over 4000 Ghanaians who live in China.

“There’s a sizeable Ghanaian community in China and our government through our embassy has been working with the Chinese authorities to find the best way to deal with the situation. The Ghanaian community includes 4760 students out of which 300 students are studying in Hubei province and 200 in the city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak. We have a delicate and delitant situation on our hand Mr. Speaker, and it does not benefit anybody to try to score points by introducing ill-judged politics into this ongoing medical conondrum and humanitarian politics” he said
The president also added that the government has supported through the Ghanaian embassy in China has disbursed an amount of $500 to each Ghanaian student in China. He also added that the Chinese government has furthered its support by helping these students with logistical support and food.

Probably speaking to calls that have come for the Ghanaian students abroad to come back to Ghana, the president said expert advise given the government is for the students to stay where they are to curtail the threats of the disease spreading further. he said “the government is in constant touch with experts on the subject who advise that the basic principles of public health is to confine the disease to the area of origin” adding that the government has the needed arrangements in place to evacuate these students from the Wuhan province if it becomes necessary making sure that it does not cause fear and panic in the country.
The government of Ghana according to the president has since sent its solidarity to the people of Ghana and is liaising with its embassy to make sure that Ghanaian citizens in the country are in the best of conditions.
