The people of Akyem are solidly behind Nana Akofo Addo in the upcoming 2020 Ghanaian election. At least this is the sentiment if you go by the statement made by the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, at a durbar held in Kyebi to welcome Nana Akofo-Addo to the Akyem enclave. The massive gathering held on the second day of his three-day tour of the region brought together people all over Akyem, including Abuakwa, Bosome, and Kotoku.
They gathered to hear President Nana Akofo Addo discuss his record and lay down his agenda for the Akyem area in particular and the country in general if reelected. If the sentiment held by the chief is widespread among his people, then Nana Addo would be glad to know that he can count on having the majority of the votes of over 1.5 million constituents of the Akeyem states.
The Okyenhene congratulated the president on what he said is a job well done in the first four years. He cautions the gathering against listening to naysayers, who doubted his ability to get anything done when he started. Stating that he believes Nana Addo has kept all his promises to the people and exceeded all expectations. He urged his people to give the president four more years to continue what has started because of his accomplishment.
He reminded the gathering that the president could have easily used his office to amass wealth for himself and his family. On the contrary, he has implemented policies that have benefitted the country, and improved the living standards of all Ghanaians. The president he indicated comes from an ancestral and cultural heritage where he was that teaches disdain for greed and rejects the love money.
He suggested that Ghanaians must rest assured that their stewardship is in the right hand because of these traits.
He cited some of the president’s initiatives, which he said had benefit all Ghanaians. He mentioned some of the president’s programs, including the Free SHS Education, One Village One Dam, Your One District One Factory, The NABCO initiatives as an example of the achievements. He also cited numerous infrastructure projects, including roads and highways, which have already helped improve most Ghanaians’ quality of life. The Okyehene compared the president’s works to a fruit-bearing tree and invoked the words of Jesus to remind them that a tree that bears fruit must not be cut down but must be allowed to grow.
In response, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his steadfastness and commitment to continue his effort to build Ghana into a country that will make generations before including his father and grandfather, who struggle to create it proud of the country it has become. He urged Ghanaians to give him four more years to continue what he s started and do more.
