Founder of Angel-Zoe Foundation, Abena Asomaning-Antwi, has been acknowledged by the Queen of England for her good work. Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II, acknowledged the work of of the founder of the NGO with the conferring of the Points of Light Award upon her.
Mrs. Asomaning-Antwi’s organisation is a voluntary faith-based NGO founded in 2007 to reach out to prison inmates and help out with rehabilitation and proper re-integration into the society once they become ex-convicts. The Points Of Light Award was presented on Thursday July 19, 2018 at the British High Commission in Accra.
The Points of Light Award recognizes outstanding individual volunteers – people who are making a change in their communities. It was first established by President George H. W. Bush in 1990, and embraces the challenge of undertaking community need projects through volunteerism.
The grateful founder of Angel-Zoe mentioned in her acceptance speech
“Angel-Zoe Foundation had come to stay regardless of the opposition faced and the nonchalant attitude of the same society I sought to help. My weapons in the past eleven years have focused on building relationships with inmates and officers, mentorship, counselling, training. We also reconciled inmates and families who want nothing to do with them after their incarceration.’’
Speaking on how she started and the challenges she faced, she stated
“It wasn’t easy when I decided to quit corporate work and concentrate solely on Angel-Zoe Foundation. But I pursued this singular cause quietly because many corporate entities I approached for support refused to help. Angel Zoe Foundation was too unpopular, and often didn’t fit into their corporate social responsibility plans. And today here I am with the evidence of my desire”
