General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention, Mr. Atik Mohammed has called for the interrogation of Mr. Bernard Monarh, chairman for his party over some comments made by the latter he describes as “treasonable”.
According to him, there is the need for him to be invited to explain how he will be able to make the claims of “mayhem” he called for happen.
“If you threaten mayhem, , If you threaten violence…the visitation of violence on whoever, i think both of them are treasonable offences…so you cannot threaten mayhem against a state agency that is doing its work within the limits of the law and the police will not invite you. What is they wait and you actually put effects and meaning to your threat?” he said.

Speaking on Peace Fm’s Kokrokoo Morning show today, Mr Atik Mohammed maintained that the party’s position on the matter was that they were in support of the compilation of a new voters’ register and the position taken by the chairman of the party against the compilation was a personal one. According to him, this has come up because the PNC currently finds itself in a state where things are not going well.
“he belongs to the group outside of the PNC…the PNC’s position on this matter is that we agree to the compilation of a new register and either yesterday or a day before, a statement was issued in that regard just so that we could clarify that position. Individuals can hold a position…but the PNC is in such a state that things are not going well so you find people acting treasonably to the common good and to the common interest. So I’m not amazed people will take personal positions contrary to the party’s position” he said, adding people need to understand that merely being the chair of a political party does not mean one can say whatever whatever they want.
