Reports from Amuanapraso in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region says,
15-year-old boy Bright Mensah, has lost his life in galamsey pit.
Bright got drowned in an abandoned illegal mining pit near River Pra.
His parents, Mr. Teye Mensah & Madam Akosua Cecilia, commented on the issue saying
their son left home that he was going to visit a family member Thursday, April 30, 2020,
but did not return.
The chief of the community, elders, assembly members, unit committee members & NADMO officials were informed about the boy been missing
Which they subsequently mobilized the youth to join the police for the search.
During the search they found slippers & dress of the deceased on the fringe of the pit raising suspicion that he would be in the pit.
The locals then led to the discovery and removal of the body of the deceased.
According to the community leaders, many kids sneak to swim in the pit;
therefore, they suspect the deceased may have gone swimming & got drowned.
Bright Mensah’s remains have been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital Morgue at Nkawkaw.
