Kumasi circuit Court 1 presided over by her lordship Mrs Comfort Taseameh, has remanded a 41 year old business Man, Owusu Desmond for raping his own 20 year old daughter Franklina Owusu.
Presenting the facts, the chief prosecutor, inspector Timothy Amoako stated that, the accused person Desmond Owusu is a resident of Kromoase new site, a suburb of Kumasi. And the victim completed her SHS in the year 2015 and unfortunately got her mathematics paper cancelled by WAEC.
The victim, Franklina has been staying with the mother at Breman, also a suburb of Kumasi in the Kwabre District. She then informed the accused person (her father) about the exams cancellation and demanded his financial support to enable her rewrite the mathematics paper again, but the accused person told her that, until she come to stay with him, he will not cater for her again .
The complainant relocated to the accused person’s house at Kromoase in the month of September, 2016. The accused person started making advances on the complainant after she had spent one week with him. He finally succeeded in having sexual intercourse with her one dawn when she was sleeping.
The complainant upon seeing her father having sexual intercourse with her, intended to break the silence but she was threatened to be killed by her father if she dares do that. The accused person told the complainant that, having sexual intercourse with her will enable him get money to cater for her.
The accused person succeeded and forcibly had sexual intercourse with the victim on five different occasions in his room. During the fifth sexual encounter which occurred on 17th October, 2016 at about 8.00am, the complainant told the accused person that she could no longer continue having sexual intercourse with him again because he is her father and also such act was killing her morally.
The Accused person responded that he would never stop. On Friday 21/10/16 at about 10:30pm, the accused person attempted to have an intimacy with the complainant again which she resisted. He then became furious and subjected her to beatings and wounded her.
This made her run back to her mother at Breman and told her uncle the ordeal she had gone through in the hands of her own father. A report was made to the regional headquarters of DOVVSU in Kumasi where the accused person was arrested.
In his cautioned statement given to the police, he denied the offences. After police investigation, he was charged with the offence and brought before court but has been granted bail to reappear on 15 March 2017.
