Chairman of the Peoples National Convention, Mr. Bernard Monarh, has been invited by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to assist with investigations over comments he made concerning the compilation of a new voters’ register described to be a threat.
He is expected to report at the CID headquarters on Tuesday, 2nd May, 2020.
According to the letter cited by ghanaquest.com, Mr. Monarh is being invited over comments he made to resist any attempt by the electoral commission to compile a new voters’ register.
“The CID headquarters is investigating a case in which you were alleged to have threatened to resist any attempt by the Electoral Commission to compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 general elections” the statement said.

The statement went on further to refer to another video in which Mr. Monarh is said to have made statements at a press conference organized by the Inter Party Resistance Against New Voters’ Register (IPRAN).
He is quoted to have said “…people who are already Ghanains are already registered are going to be taken out of the voters’ register, don’t you think confusion will come at the registration station and if confusion come there, you think the EC staff will be safe, we will beat each other there, we will kill each other there if that is what the EC want to lead this nation to”.
Mr. Monarh however maintains he was only saying that as a means to caution the EC on the path it is plunging the nation into through the position they have taken to compile a new register.

Earlier today, general secretary of the PNC, the same party Mr. Monarh chairs, Atik Mohammed, called for such an action to be taken against the party chair as they amounted to treason.
