Insurance company, Allianz Life is giving medical professionals who are on the frontline in the fight against the novel coronavirus an insurance cover worth GHC 8.4 million.
Allianz Life: The free life insurance cover only applies to doctors and nurses assigned to take care of COVID-19 patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
According to the Head of Marketing and Communications of Allianz Life Insurance Company, Elaine Mary Arthur said as part of company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, it deemed it necessary to support the health sector and take some pressures off the government.
According to her, the 12-month cover insures the medical professionals against incidents that may happen over the period regardless of whether it is COVID-19 related or not.
“Basically we’re doing this to augment the government efforts in fighting the COVID-19. We’re giving insurance cover for frontline doctors and nurses. We’re taking a cover for each doctor just in case of any death that happens to them within the next 12months,” she explained.
The package covers 112 medical doctors and 620 nurses who work in the emergency sections and other key departments in the three health institutions. These professionals are expected to receive compensation in the event of any incident that renders them unable to perform their duties while their families are assured of compensation from Allianz Life Insurance in the event of death.
