Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, states the Government was preparing to build 22 District Hospitals before the announcement of 88 brand-new health centers on Sunday, April 26 by the President.
Consequently, the President did not make the guarantee to build the new district hospitals out of the vacuum, however, based upon a thoroughly laid out strategy, the Health Minister said at a presser.
The Health Minister stated that the 22 District Hospitals belonged to a forecast made from the health sector’s allowance of the Sino-hydro facility between the Ghanaian and the Chinese governments.
“We had actually also selected to do 22 district hospitals even prior to the President’s statement,” he explained.
“When we got an indication of allocation of the Sinohydro facility that the government was arranging to take, we listed 22 Districts without hospitals to begin construction,” he said.
The Minister provided the assurance that the government was dedicated to finishing the continuous health infrastructure in order to offer quality healthcare to the citizenry.
“No existing health project has been abandoned by the Akufo-Addo’s Government,” he emphasized.
Responding to critics who argued that the federal government could not raise funds for the interventions, the Minister said that though there was no expense to manage COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal government dove deep to provide financing for some COVID-19 response programs.
