President Akuffo-Addo in his his 4th coronavirus update address to the country a forthnight ago announced the establishment of a fund aimed at helping assist the needy and vulnerable in the period the country fights against the disease.
This became eminent as especially some parts of Accra and Kumasi have been placed under partial lockdown effective Monday.
“I’m announcing tonight, the establishment of a covid-19 fund to be managed by an independent board of trustees and chaired by the former chief justice, Sophia Akuffo to receive contributions and donations from the public to assist in the welfare of the needy and the vulnerable” he said.
President Akuffo-Addo further revealed that he has by this measure directed the controller general to pay his next three months salary spanning April to June in to this fund.” Let me also thank, from the bottom of my heart he churches, financial institutions and individuals who have already made donations to help in this fight. God richly bless them” he added, thus calling on the general public to support this fund.

He further encouraged citizens to ensure that they protect themselves by committing to respect all the measure that have been outlined saying he’s confident the Ghanaian populace will comply to them such that the security services in the process of enforcing the restrictions will not have to use “extra-ordinary means”. He promised of the highest standards of professionalism from the enforcement agencies deployed.
“The security services have been clothed with the necessary power to enforce these measures. And I assure you, they will do so responsibly but without fear or favour, ill-will or malice” he said
“We have prayed to the almighty God to heal our land. And I know that by the grace of God, He has heard our cry. Nonetheless, each one of us must do his or her part. May God bless us all and our homeland Ghana and make us great and strong. I thank you for your attention. Goodnight” he concluded his speech.
