The Ghanaian community in Southern California gathered to bid a farewell to one of their own last weekend. The untimely departure of the beloved 40-year-old registered nurse Adelaide “Akos” Adimer after a short illness came as a shock to all who knew her.
The love and affinity for Akos was evident by the number of people who traveled from far and near to bid her farewell. The funeral and burial service took place at the Forest Lawn in Covina Hills California near Los Angeles. All who knew her spoke of her immense sense of hope, infectious smile and bubbly personality. Friends and relatives talked about how much she had inspired them to be better. She inspired hope and was always willing to lend a helping.
The funeral was performed by the leadership of the Church of Pentecost where she was a member. Members of the Sacramento congregation where she last attended made the over 400-mile journey down to Los Angeles to help ensure that their beloved sister received a befitting sendoff. It was impressive to see the sense of community exhibited by the members of the church who came down for the funeral.
Pastor Isaac used the opport to remind mourners that Akos as she was affectionately called had just been called back home to be with her heavenly father because her work here on earth was done. The exemplary life she led both in her career and personal relationship is an example for all. “By all indication we say that our sister Akos has lived her destiny” he said. He encouraged mourners to put their hope and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and to live a life worthy of emulation and to fulfil their divine destiny.
Akos was a beloved mother, nurse, friend, and relative who had a wonderful impact on everyone she came in contact with. She will greatly be missed. She is survived by her infant son, Ovie, and parents: Joseph Dotse Adimer and Gifty Afuaanokye. Chief mourners Dorothy and Johnnie Baisie.
