Civil Servants in Ghana will from this month, March 2020, see a 15 percent rise in their basic salary as directed by the Ministry of Finance.
The ministry has communicated to the Controller & Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) that, from March 2020,15 percent of the 2020 monthly basic salary is to be paid as premium to civil servants and local government service.
The payment will take effect from January 1, 2020. As result, associated arrears are to be paid in a single tranche at the end March 2020.
The letter further stated that, the payment, brings closure to all issues contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, the Ministry of Finance and Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Civil and Local Government Staff Association Ghana (CLOGSAG) – civil servants representatives on 18th August, 2016 in which, the 15 percent premium was agreed for civil servants
“This letter supersedes our earlier letter on the subject. Please treat as urgent,” Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei Asare said.
The directive, has put smiles on the faces of staff of the civil service and local government service as they will not only see an increase in their March 2020 salaries but will also be taking home the arrears owned them by government since January.
Since the beginning of the year, Civil and Local Government Staff were given a 10 percent increase in salaries, a move that was contrary to the MOU signed.

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) threatened last month to embark on a strike early March, to express their displeasure against government decision not to honour the demand for a 15 percent increment in premium for its members since January.
The threat was issued after the office of the Head of the Civil Service sent a communique, indicating that the increment in salaries, which took effect at the beginning of 2020 was an error.
On pensions, CLOGSAG wants government to put in all the necessary efforts to ensure effective implementation of the ACT 766 which is the tier three pension scheme.
GOOD NEWS.A LISTENING GOVERNMENT
The government is doing so much for Ghanaians. If we had this administration eight years from now, the country will rub shoulders with the superpower countries.
Let’s give the government the needed support to move the country at a pace that has never been done by any African country.
I believe my country Ghana and my President to deliver positively to the satisfaction of Ghanaians.
We are waiting to experience the truth. We can’t count our eggs unhatched yet.
Comment…This is good news by all standard. President, we thank you for listening to the public outcry concerning workers arrears. 4 more to more laaa.
Listening government my foot.
Check the information, since 2016 that the MOU was signed and they refused to implement it. Now that it’s another election year they want to fool us.
We are going to show them that we are human beings too for once.
Nonsense Government
What did your NDC do when they were in office. Knowing well that they were going to lose election 2016 that’s why they signed it in order to sabotage the incoming government. Why didn’t your NDC implement it while they knew very we were then in an election year. Hypocrisy!!
Mr Daniel Babaverewe Kugorilogo, you cannot be fair with this statement. Let’s call a spade by its name. What did previous administration do avoid this arrears today? Why didn’t they go ahead to pay upon implementation? If this government is doing well, be bold as a man to say it loud and clear. Without politics, I will vote for this party again and again based on its good works. Can you imagine if we had this pace of development 8 years ago?
May God bless my homeland Ghana with good leadership that will take us out of the woods.
Wish this is true ,Ghana?
It was signed to take effect from January 2020 not as at then Hon. So strike threatened was bcos it was not effected from January 2020. pls read the communique.
Please I need a confirmation that the 15percent is true before I send my comments
But for the timely agitation from our unions, this government would have shielded this. My appreciation will rather go to these unions for not settling for their own interest but fight for the common worker. I know the government had attempted closing their mouth with some goodies but they pressed on. Those of u who are praising the government should know that it was an agreement that was supposed to have implemented but as usual the government wanted to look sharp. God bless our unions and expose any wicked leader.
Why didn’t JM implement it den, such an absurd comments
If it’s true, then the government needs more four years to continue its work
God bless our homeland Ghana and make our Nation great and strong
It’s great to see the country move forward…salary of civil servants previously were nothing to write home about and if they are to receive a 15% increase then it shall return likewise a blessing to the govt of the day. Morale of workers will be high and High standard working ethics will be seen in the onfoward movement of mother Ghana. Lon live the president…long live Ghana.
If it is true then this government will win and win whenever election is conducted in this country. But if it is a scam then hmmmm
We appreciate the government efforts to Ghanaians.Lets all rally behind this government.
Hnmmmm, mother Ghana.
What about the public servants, ….. It look like this goes only for civil servants
Yes oo, Osei ask again, what about the public servants?
Woow. #4MoreYears #4More2DoMore
Authenticity and source-Tony,Manksssiim
Is the salary increased by 5%or 15%?
We’re already taking a premium of 10%, and so it’s 5% added and not 15%.
Please, it should be made clear how the 15% was calculated
If this increment is for civil servants, what Happens to the public servants?
What did your NDC do when they were in office. Knowing well that they were going to lose election 2016 that’s why they signed it in order to sabotage the incoming government. Why didn’t your NDC implement it while they knew very we were then in an election year. Hypocrisy!!
Whether it is an agreement before the government or not all Ghanaian workers are going to enjoy it . Lets sometimes put out our differences and move our country forward. Politics politics politics always. Why!
4 more 4 Nana Addo
They surely know it’s getting to an election month. That’s why all these are happening. They should ask Kuffour his experience.
Thanks, eventhogh we will be showing you the exit come December
Those teachers where talking brabra , are you civil servant? The increments is for civil servants and not we the public servants. So teachers you are not part of the increment.
I hope and believe this massage is a true and fruitful one ,
Good news.We do hope to seeing it reflect at the end of this month.
Only God knows what is good for his people
This is the useless government ever in the history of our country Ghana. This mou was signed in 2016, why listen now? Should we always be taken for granted? Are we kids that will always be fooled in election year?
I KNOW NANA CAN REALLY DELIVER….4 YEARS MORE FOR NANA….INFACT YOU ARE DOING A GOOD JOB FOR GHANA. NDC YOU HAVE LEFT FOR GOOD…4 MORE YEARS FOR NANA
Public service workers also deserve the same . especially teachers.
You have given heads 20% for their accommodation are they the only people renting, and they are going to enjoy this 15% too, which means only this year some of our colleagues salary have been increased 45% while others 25% this is not good at all, the president must do about it because they are not the only people renting. And what about the 40% review of teacher’s salary we are waiting to hear from the president.
This is not a political issue. So this government had decided not to pay the teachers arrears that GNAT made us fill the useless and nonsense forms 3333. Pay us our ARREARS aaaabah. Y should u be doing this to teachers koraaaaas.
Please any update on the 2020 recruitment after the exams
Holaalaa Nana you do all
It seems the site has misinterpreted the 15%. The initial rate for the premium was 10% and it’ll be increased to 15%. Meaning the actual increment with regards to the premium will be 5%. Check your facts well.
I hope this is true but what happens to the earlier 10 percent ?, Now is it 5 percent or 15 percent, it will serve us good if the information is clear before we hold false hopes.
Good move if only is true .
Am waiting to experience it first
I can’t jubilate about what i have not seen or touched
I must experience it “yaaganii” before any other thing
If it is true then this government will win and win whenever election is conducted in this country. But if it is a scam then hmmmm
The government promise all public worker 500cedis for rent, when it is coming?
I must experience it “yaaganii” before any other thing
I can’t jubilate about something i have not seen or touched
Initiatives have come and gone with full implementations we witnessed severally before. So beware.
Eyes have witnessed, minds have captured, ears have heard. Its left with hands to testify. We all live to witness this move if it isn’t a dream.
Are teachers going to enjoy this increment as well?
4 more for Nana
This is one of the useless article I have sighted this year. you didn’t take a look at the details of the MOU of august 18th, 2016.
Take a look at the details of that MOU. the content of that MOU was to be implemented in 2017 Jan.
As common with government, only 10% was paid them till Jan 2020 when they agitated.
From the content of the letter by the deputy minister, the 5% arrears owned them for 38 months will only see two months payment.
Basic logic agrees that if you own someone 38 months arrears and you paid 2 months you are left with 36 months to pay making the discussion between you two inconclusive.
Yet, the letter. stated that, the payment brings a closure to the issues in that MOU.
I expect that, the writer cross check this basic details before writing this junk and tag it. 15% increase salary… where did you school, when has a debt, become an increase…
stomach journalist with political flags..
the sad aspect is the leadership of clogsag silence and posture… making noise only to keep quiet all of a sadden at this injustice done their members… am not surprise some people are calling for another union in the civil service…
I am thinking its the remaining 5% but if they want to give us the 15% in addition all thanks be to God and the sitting government n it administration
It would have been good but this information if I was reading it from Site like joynews, ghamaweb and city news but ghanaquest is not authentic site for us to be happy.
Indeed Ghana is working …But I will only be relieved if I see the alert on my phone ..At least I can add another comment here …
But please You guys should take care of yourselves out there sake of the Virus Outbreak…You all make Ghana better !
Great news I have heard, God bless the president for his listening ear and good ideas for for we citizens
Great news I have heard, God bless the president for his listening ear and good ideas for we citizens
Ghanaians, let us pray for the government for he is doing very well. Well appreciated
During every election year anytime NPP is in power salary increases just like that…it’s not news to hear salary would increase again..don’t be surprised to see it increase again after this 15% increament
Thanks to this government, you’re worth the next four year and I pray this increment should be done every quarter of the year. Thanks
