Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic, Theophilus Tetteh-Chai has said that he does not see the ruling government delivering on its promises.
Saying this on the backdrop of Dr. Bawumia’s Town Hall meeting at Kumasi last Tuesday on Peace Fm’s Kokrokoo Morning show, Mr. Tetteh-Chai argued that the bottom line in what could be described as a good economy is that the pockets of citizens are affected positively.

“My brother, if the economy is good, bottom line is; it reflects in the pockets of individuals in the country, simply put. Recently, you’d have heard trump saying the American Economy is getting better. Why? Because companies are growing, They are creating more room for jobs, you understand? Then you can happily say that your economy is growing” he said, adding that citizens even find it hard buying electricity.
According to him the government has failed in delivering on areas like the promised galamsey restructuring saying that the situation is even now worse off. He also mentions the one million dollars per constituency they promised was to be given each year but were only able to do it for a year with an amount that is only 12% of the total amount that should have gone out to all constituencies.

“In this country today, businesses are collapsing. The government told Ghanaians that it will establish factories in the over 260 districts in the country and in some, he will even partner with the private sector to set up… Let’s ask ourselves; out of the 268 districts, can you count ten factories the government has set-up in the country? We are in the fourth year” he added, saying that Bawumia seems only to be involved in Sloganeering when they have not delivered.
He believes that the vice president lacks credibility as he not been consistent in his work. He said “ As a person, your actions are what will make people see that you are very consistent. But you see, is like we are not being honest with the governing of the country. That is the credibility problem Hi Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia lacks”.

Rebutting his argument, Dr. Kwabena Kokofu, former MP for Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region said that unlike the claims he [Theophilus Tetteh-Chai] is making, the government has fought corruption to a level that has been recognized by civil society.
He said a recent report by IMANI Ghana shows that the government had a total score of 75% in the fight against corruption.
On the issue of Dumsor, he said that In 2016, the president [John Dramani Mahama] said dumsor has been solved but it came back just a week after that declaration. He believes that dumsor which was a management problem with attendant social issues and economic downturns was never a social problem like many in the NDC argue has been solved by this government.
Everything, he says, proves that the country is developing.
