Reports coming in from some parts of the Volta Region following the heavy military presence there indicates that the happenings is making indigens of affected communities feel they are not regarded by the current administration as Ghanaians.
Reporting on the current state of activities in the region today, Volta Regional correspondent for Starr Fm, Faizal Iddrissu, said despite this however that citizens in that part of the country are ready to go out in their numbers to vote to prove that they are indeed Ghanaians.
“Let me also state that there is that notion here in the region that the government of the day is not regarding Voltarians as being Ghanaians; there is that notion which many people are not buying into. So you realize that the reactions from the people is more or less in a way to…go out in their numbers to register . The people are saying, we want to register, we want to go out and vote and show government that we are Ghanaians” he said.
He also observed that military presence in some some of the border communities visited have been increased. The reporter goes on to reveal that the military personnel have embarked on identification initiatives where they go to various homes and question their nationality.

“So from March this year till date, there has been some sort of patrolling along the borders by the security personnel. What is different this time around is that the numbers have increased, that is in terms of the military and of course, they are more visible in the communities rather than the borders in itself. So when you get to villages like Amlenu, Segbe and even the Aflao township itself, there is visibility of military presence all around town” he observed.
He adds on the encounter some people have had with the security personnel saying “Now the reaction from the residents is that especially at the time that they are starting registration tomorrow, then the deployment of these people is simply to intimidate them. A couple of them have also alleged that there were instances where the military or these security personnel stop them along the bridge to interrogate them” adding some indicate they are interrogated on the lines of whether or not they are Ghanaians and where they are resident. There were also allegations of the personnel barging into their residence to interrogate them.
