The Tema Regional office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has suffered a robbery attack, police confirmed on Thursday.
The gun-wielding men invaded the facility and reportedly held hostage three security guards from Lion Security Company.
“Their[Security guards] hands were tied and guards placed on them”, the police said in a statement.
Numbering about eight, the robbers who were armed with other implements broke into and ransacked the accounts office, the regional manager’s office and two other rooms.
A metal safe at the accounts office was badly damaged and an amount of GHS 70,000.00 was stolen.
The robbers succeeded in making away with an amount of GHS 75,000.00 after they ransacked the Regional Manager’s office.
No amount was however, stolen from the banking hall of Ecobank— a bank located at the DVLA premises.
The Tema Regional Police Command and the Bureau of National Investigations have begun investigations into the alleged robbery incident.
Our correspondent who visited the scene on Thursday said customers were left stranded as all activities had come to a halt.
