The German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in Accra Ghana as part of a three nation West African tour aim at boosting investment in the region. She arrived in Ghana after visiting Senegal which like Ghana is one of regions most stable countries and one of the fasters growing economies. Her delegation includes about 12 a dozen CEO who are here to explores ways of strengthening business ties with the region.
After talks with the Ghanaian President the German Chancellor asserted her believe that a prosperous European Union can not be fully achieved without a partnership with Africa and a coordinated effort to deal with the migration crises of several African youth heading to Europe.
Some European believe that boosting investment in the West African sub-region will help curb the migration crises. The migration wave to Europe has subsided from the peak of the crises of 2015 but it still remains a dividing issues in Europe.
The Ghanaian president made the case for helping illegal migrants in Germany to stay in the country, suggesting that these migrant would like to remain in Germany if given the chance. He also called for further investment in West African because it would curb then issue of illegal migration. “the stronger we are the better it is for our youth to stay.” He said.
The next stop of her visit is to Nigeria. Other world leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron, Chinese President Xi Jinping have visited West Africa in recent months.
