The western-north region has confirmed the first case of the novel coronavirus (covid-19) since its outbreak in Ghana.
Accordiing to Dr. Marion Oko-Owusu, the case was recorded in the Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai distrct of the region.
Speaking on Accra-based Peace Fm, Dr. Marion said this result was reached through routine surveillance the directorate has embarked on in the region.

“The Western North had not recorded any case so far, so what we have been doing is strengthening routine surveillance. Thus if there is anyone in the system who showed symptoms of the disease , it was treated as a suspected case and sent to the lab for testing. So we had some samples in the lab whose results were not yet in” she said.
Subsequently, the cases that were not yet in have been received and out of the total 22 results they have received, 21 tested negative whiles one sample from the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai district tested positive.

“But we now have the results and one case has tested positive. This means now the case report of the Western North region stands at 28 for suspected cases . Out of this number, we have received results for 22 cases. 21 of the cases tested 21 with one testing positive and the positive case from the Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai District” she said
This brings the total number of regions that have recorded the case of 11 out of 16. Ghana’s case count now stands at 1,154 cases
