President Akuffo-Addo for the fifth time has addressed the nation on how far government has gone with dealing with the issues of the novel coronavirus spread in the country.
As part of the outlines on what the government has put in place in the coming days, the president revealed a number of measures that includes government’s absorption of cost of water and electricity for the next 3 months.
Speaking in his address from the Jubilee house,Sunday, the president said the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been directed to ensure stable supply of water and electricity.
“Ghana Water Company Limited and the Electricity Company of Ghana, have been directed to ensure a stable supply of water and electricity during this period [lockdown period]. In addition, there will be no disconnection of supply. Further more, government will absorb the water bills of all Ghanaians for the next 3 months i.e April, May and June” he said.

In addition to these, the President said that the services of water tankers, “publicly and privately owned” are going to be normalized to ensure the supply of water to vulnerable communities.
On the provision of food for the needy and vulnerable, President Akuffo-Addo said that government through the ‘Coronavirus Alleviation Programme’, the Ministries of Gender, Children and Social Protection as well as Local Government and Rural Development together with the various faith based organizations and MMDCE’s and NADMO have started the provision of food for up to 400, 000 individuals and homes in the affected areas of the restriction.
“This began in Accra today and will begin in Kumasi tomorrow. It will come in the form of dry food packages and hot meals and will be delivered in vulnerable communities in Accra, Kumasi, Tema and Kasoa ” he added.

According to the president, this week will see the Ghana Health Service receive the results of a total of 15,384 out of 19,276 who have been reached through contact tracing. It is the resuts of these tests,the president said that will determine the country’s future course of action.
