Head Coach of Agona Fankobaa, Nana Agyemang has said the head coach of the senior national football team, the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah must be sacked following the team’s abysmal performance at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars were knocked out in the Round of 16 stage by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on penalty shoot-out at the just ended tournament in Egypt.
There has been no indication of plans to relieve the coach of his job neither does he appear to want to walk away.
Coach Appiah’s contract ends in December 2019.
The AFCON and World Cup qualifiers are also expected to begin in the next few months.
However, Nana Agyemang noted that the assistant coach of the team is more qualified than the man in charge of the Black Stars as he holds a UEFA Pro licence and has suggested Coach Appiah be paid off.
“I think we should look elsewhere. Pay him off. His assistant coach is more qualified than he is. He has a UEFA pro licence that Appiah doesn’t have. He is saying that because of the indiscipline of his players, we should have a code of conduct. What is he paid to do? He is the manager of the team for crying out loud. Who should be doing that for him?
“His coaching sessions are not worthy of respect. It is blatant. The players see this and they have no respect for these sessions. He is just not good enough. We should hire a more qualified and competent coach and for me Tanko is a better option than the head Coach. He is not the best available material on the market even if we want to settle on a local coach. Fire him and get the best who can take us forward,” Nana Agyemang told Class Sports’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang on Class Sports World on Saturday, 3 August 2019.
Coach Kwasi Appiah is said to have submitted a report on the team’s performance at the AFCON to the Normalisation Committee who are yet to take a decision on his future.
