Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, has revealed that President Akufo-Addo together with his government is strategizing ways to furnish both tertiary and secondary institutions with free wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi).
According to him, this action yet to be taken is in fulfilment of President Akufo-Addo’s promise made to students during his 2016 campaign.
Speaking at the official launch of the 20th anniversary of Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) in Accra, the Vice president reechoed; “We promised free Wi-Fi to Tertiary Institutions and Senior High Schools… Well, I’m happy to tell you that Nana Akufo-Addo has not been sleeping on that promise. He’s been working on it and this year…by the grace of God, keep your fingers crossed, we’ll start to roll out a free Wi-Fi in tertiary institutions as well as the Senior High Schools”.
Dr Bawumia signalled that phase one of the project will commence from the University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) among other schools.
He added the project would spread nationwide to enhance government’s digitization policy as soon as phase one is completed.
He said, “We expect to begin phase one of this particular programme with the University of Ghana, UPSA, West Africa Senior High School in Adentan and Kwabenya Community Day, C/A SHS …and Ejisu”.
TESCON, an NPP political movement in about 207 tertiary institutions in Ghana have worked very hard since 1997 to attain victory in the year 2000, 2016 and is looking forward to winning election 2020. Today, many TESCONIANS are holding top positions such as Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), Deputy CEOs of governmental companies, among other institutions as a reward for their active participation and contribution towards the development of the party.
Attesting to the hard work of the group, the vice president said, “TESCON has been phenomenal” as Ghanaians are looking forward to the NPP to deliver on their promises.
Meanwhile, NPP National Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku has urged all TESCONIANS to move away from WhatsApp politics, and other social media campaigns and get to the grounds to campaign massively for President Akufo-Addo for a win-win in 2020.
He said, “Let me also sound a word of caution, as we get closer to 2020, let’s move away from WhatsApp politics and get to the grounds. Finger politics does not ensure victory in elections…let’s not run a selfie campaign. Let’s run a campaign that all of us can determine that each and every one of us can account for 20 votes that the person pulled for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the elections”.
