President Akufo-Addo in his 9th address to the nation on updates thus far in Ghana’s fight against the COVID-19 disease has touted government’s measures put in place to fight the disease.
According to him, the country’s working target agenda of ‘Tracing, Testing and Isolation’ has proven to be a good measure that has reduced significantly the rate of infections in the country.
“Indeed, had we not been proactive in undertaking enhanced contact tracing of infected persons and had relied solely on testing persons who had reported to the hospital which is the practice followed by some other African countries i.e routine testing, our total case count would have stood at 1,413. The other 3,232 i.e 2/3rds of the population of positives would have been undetected and still be within the population unknowingly infecting others” he said
The president went on to ask citizens to disregard the claims made by people he described as “political actors” that the country has failed in its fight due to the recorded numbers. This he says are just means to score political points for “their political survival”

“I know some political actors will want you to believe that our current numbers represent the failure on the part of government. Do not begrudge them. They need to make such comments for their political survival” he said.
According to president Akufo-Addo, these numbers have come up as a result of the “aggressive” contact tracing strategies government has employed in battling the disease. Thus the numbers are only as a result of government’s strong strategies put in place and also the cause of our low infections and death rates. This he said has led to Ghana catching the eye of the World Health Organization to support other African countries in their fight.
“We certainly must be doing something right in Ghana” he said, adding that “Our country has administered more tests per million people than any other country in Africa. And in fact, the world health organization, WHO, has reached out to us to share our sample proving experience with other African countries so they can adopt this strategy and also ramp up their testing capabilities
