Former President, John Diawuo Agyekum Kufuor has underscored the critical role that leadership plays to the development and advancement of a country.
He said here in Accra late Wednesday during the launch of a charity musical concert dubbed “Giants Unplugged” as part of celebrations to mark the upcoming 81st birthday of the former President of the Republic.
Speaking at the launch of the concert, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor emphasized that meaningful development cannot be achieved if leaders are not groomed to acquire the art and skill of good governance and that explains why he founded the John Agyekum Kufuor (JAK) Foundation.
He said, “There is hardly anything positive that could be achieved without good leadership. Leadership, I believe is a tenet and foundation without which, you can really achieve round development.
That was why I decided to set up this foundation. I wish I had all the resources to undertake all projects under the foundation but because of the scale of the vision, I found out that I needed support for the foundation,” he said.
The former Ghanaian leader referred to as ‘Gentle Giant’ bemoaned the low level of development on the African continent in spite of the continent’s abundant resources and attributed part of the problem to the “quality of the leadership.”
The challenge of lack of or ill-prepared leaders in the country and across Africa, the former President emphasized remains a focus that his foundation seeks to tackle so as to achieve the round development to improve the socio-politico-economic well-being of the people.
Mr. Kufuor, who ruled Ghana between January 7, 2001 to January 6, 2009 emphasized that the annual events aimed at supporting his foundation forms part of the legacy he wants to leave for the youth of the country and also establish the strong base of bringing up good leaders to spearhead the development of Ghana and Africa as a whole.
He urged musicians to support the concert in their numbers and also spread the good course of the JAK Foundation as they contribute to the development in our society and Africa as a whole.
Kwesi Nkrumah Tenkorang, Head of Events and Marketing at Primeval Media commended the former president for his exemplary leadership style and contributions to the development of Ghana and the African continent.
