Water problems have been a nuisance in Ghana for a pretty long time, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop any moment soon. The newest of areas to be hit by this plague are the Adabraka and Asylum Down communities. The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), however has given assurance that it will will fix the issue for the residents of both communities.
The problem apparently is that a malfunctioning pipeline is restricting direct flow of water to the people of Adabraka and Asylum Down. The real problem at hand isn’t the inaccessibility of water for the past month, but the fact that the GWCL still hasn’t given an exact time by which it would have been able  to resolve the problem.
The members of the communities mentioned to media houses that water tanks have been sent to supply water for now, but they still not don’t know when they will be they will be getting a permanent fix.
“We are pleading with the media to tell government that we need water because we have been suffering a lot due to lack of it. The authorities in charge should come and fix the pipe for us,”

Some residents say that an ongoing construction work affected the pipeline which distributes water to the affected areas.

Communications director of the GWCL, Mr. Stanley Martey , also affirmed that the water problem was due to a fault in the pipeline. However there wasn’t a timeline to when  the issue was going to be fixed.

“There have been several structures built on some of our pipelines and because Adabraka is an old community, the pipelines in the area are quite old so they are not strong to withstand that impact from those structures.”

He went on to further state that they did not communicate with the communities initially because they did not know exactly what the problem was, as they had not done an assessment of the place. He was optimistic however that they would have started something productive towards the fixing of the problem by the end of this weekend.

“However, we kept announcing on our Public Address system that there was a challenge and we are working on it so they should bear with us. We are making a headway and this week there has been much improvement. We are hopeful that by the end of the week, we should be able to do a comprehensive assessment of the place and change what we have to change to get the taps following,”
