Henry Asomani a Ghanaian naturalized US citizen has been convicted for his part in a scheme that defrauded several women in a combination of 419 and romance scam across several states. These follows his October 2018 arrest in Virginia.
The Kansa city jury deliberated for about two hours before handing out the guilty verdict. As part of the scheme Asomani targeted gullible and lonely women on the dating site ChristainSingle.
Asomani is believed to the middleman for the operation involving several players. He managed to convinced an elderly widow who he met on the dating sites ChristainSingle.com to part with close to 3.3millon dollars under the guise of investing in a gold mining venture in Ghana.
About 2.3 million of that money was later discovered to have been deposited in Asomani’s accounts. 1.7millon was later transferred to various accounts in Ghana. He also shipped up 18 vehicles to Ghana including depositing $50,000 for the down payment of a Lexus SUV.
Online romance scam has been going on for ages and seems to get even bigger with time in spite off serous efforts by governments to combat the problem.
