After a decade of having sold the only national telecommunication company, Former President John Agyekum Kuffour feels he has been vindicated. The Former Head of State stated recently at gathering that he feels like he is a prophet for making that sale.
He mentioned that the present performance and state of Vodafone Ghana as the second biggest Telecom network in Ghana makes him “feel like a seer or a prophet”, and that people could not see what he was seeing at the time.
H.E J.A Kuffour has on multiple occasions emphasized on the fact that he does not in anyway regret what he did in his last year of power with the sale of Ghana Telecom, he has even mentioned that he actually does not regret anything he did during his time in power form 2000 – 2008.
He made his remark of “feeling like a prophet” during Vodafone Ghana’s 10th Anniversary,
“There was a lot of criticisms when a government I led decided to give the concession to Vodafone. Thankfully, within the past ten years, I believe that the step we took has been vindicated such that now, as I sit here, I feel a bit like a seer, a prophet for deciding on Vodafone”.
He maintained that Ghana Telecom was not operating profitably at the time and needed financial and capital injection to save it from collapse.
Meanwhile Former President Kufuor has urged Vodafone Ghana to list on the Ghana Stock Exchange to allow Ghanaians own part of the company.
