Member of parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Hon. Samuel Nartey George has accused the Electoral Commissioner Madam Jean Mensa and her deputy Dr. Asare Bossman of being President Nana Addo’s ‘minister and deputy minister for re-election”.
According to him, this looks true because the two electoral commissioners are putting up actions that seem to suggest they are aimed at keeping the president in office, thus working in his favor instead of being the referees they are supposed to be.
Speaking ahead of the “Wɔkpɛnɛɛ” demonstration held in Accra last Tuesday, the member of the Public Accounts Committee in parliament said that “Madam Jean Mensa says the reason why she wants to change the register is that she wants the key [Password to the current database] that will allow her access to the system to help her manipulate it. STL [Vendors of the current BVR machines the EC sought to change] also said they will not allow her that access till all the parties have agreed. Because she cannot get the key, she wants to contract another company that will allow her the access to make the manipulations she sought to do in favour of Nana Addo”.

He went on to argue that the EC must take cognizance of the fact that the commission was a national property run by the tax payers money and thus must do as the citizens will; which in this case is to halt the compilation of a new register. “What I want them to understand is that it [the electoral commission] is not anyone’s personal property. It is the money of Ghanaians that caters for them so they have to do what we [Ghanaians] choose to do with our money. ” he said.
