Ghana Football Association communication director, Ibrahim Saanie Daara, has denied reports that former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has been picked to replace Avram Grant who left the post last month after his contract expired.
More than 70 candidates have applied for the job, with entry still open until end of March. However, reports emerged in the local media that Appiah, who has also sent his CV, had been selected as the successful candidate.
“There is no shred of truth in those reports. Kwesi Appiah has not been appointed Ghana coach,” Saanie said.
“The football association has not taken any decision regarding the direction of the Black Stars. Coaches were asked to apply and several of them have submitted their CVs. It’s now time for the selection committee to do their work.
“They have not even met to deliberate on the names that have come up so these reports are worrying.
He added: “Names are expected to be thrown out naturally by the media, but its’ not true the football association has finally settled on Kwesi Appiah or any other coach.
“There are several stages in the appointment process and so I will plead with Ghanaians to be patient and allow the committee set up to select the new coach do its work.”
