The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) will be receiving additional government support to carry out their work today.
This was announced by President Akufo-Addo in his 9th address to the nation in addition to some support government has already given to various frontline workers including the media.
“Further, we have extended this gesture to other frontline actors engaged in the fight, with the presentation of five thousand (5,000) PPEs to members of the media, and tomorrow, Monday, 11th May, ten thousand domestically-produced face masks and more money will be delivered to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), to enhance its capacity to undertake the important work it is already doing” he said

This move comes after many in the past weeks have bemoaned the inadequate support given the commission by the government to carry out their duties of educating citizens especially in times like this. As at April 22nd this year, the chairperson of the commission, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah revealed in an interview with graphic.com.gh that the commission had not received any funding to undertake educational activities and was also logistically constrained.
Eulogizing the frontline health workers as heroes, President Akufo-Addo showed appreciation to the health personnel involved in helping the country combat the disease.
“Let me, once again, thank the healthcare workers, including all those responsible for the tracing, testing and treating, for their heroic contribution to the fight against the pandemic. They will be long remembered in our history. In advance, I say a hearty ayekoo to the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, which celebrates its sixtieth (60th) anniversary on Tuesday” he said

Economic Recovery
President Akufo-Addo also revealed as part of the country’s economic recovery plan that the country is putting much efforts in the country’s productive sectors to ensure “sustained economic activities”.
This need comes after Ghana’s economy just like other economies around the world have suffered a major set-back due to the unexpected hit of the COVID-19 disease.
“This weekend, I chaired a three-day cabinet retreat, at Peduase Lodge, to examine in detail measures aimed at reviving and strengthening our economy. I am happy to reiterate that Government is putting in place a Resilience and Recovery Plan, with the overarching aim of finding more resources to strengthen the productive sectors of the economy to ensure sustained economic activity” he said

Whiles the GHS 600 million soft loans for Small, Medium and Large Scale Enterprises as well as that of the $3 billion stimulus packages for industries will be rolled out this month, the president added that the Minister of Finance “is working tirelessly to find additional resources to supplement these amounts, including the resources to finance the construction of eighty-eight (88) district hospitals, ‘Agenda 88’, and seven (7) regional hospitals”. These, according to him will be announced at the appropriate time to Parliament and the nation.
