For the second time in a roll, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has been forced to withdraw the Constitutional Instrument (CI) it laid before Parliament some three weeks ago.
A similar thing happened last week and the EC had to resubmit the Constitutional Instrument the following day.
The election management body, through the Constitutional Instrument., is seeking to exclude the current voter ID card and birth certificates as primary documents in compiling a new register of voters.
A meeting between Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee and the EC led by its Deputy Commissioner Dr Bossman Asare, detected that the necessary corrections to the Constitutional Instrument had still not been effected.
Consequently, the Constitutional Instrument would have to be re-laid before the House and it must go through the necessary twenty-one-sitting-day period afresh.
Parliament of Ghana rises on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has postponed its compilation of a new voter register as a result of the novel Coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Electoral Services told journalists after an Inter-Party Advisory Committee meeting, Wednesday, that the outfit is collaborating with health experts to decide on a favourable date for the New Voter Registration
“We had planned to do the registration on the 18th but because of the pandemic, we can’t do it on the 18th, so, we are observing what is happening around Ghana and the global issue…so, when it gets to a time that we think the situation is fertile for us to commence with the registration then we can do it,” Mr. Quaicoe explained.
