The NPP had planned to hold parliamentary primaries in areas where it has sitting Members of Parliament on April 25, 2020. The presidential primary was also scheduled to take place on the same day.
But the National Executive Council (NEC) of NPP is expected to meet today Tuesday, April 14, 2020, to decide on the way forward for the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.
As a result of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Ghana and all over the globe, the President has declared a ban on all public gatherings as part of measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
Therefore, the decision to hold the party’s primaries on April 25, 2020, is obviously not possible hence the need for the National Executive Council to meet to determine the way forward.
The NPP has 169 sitting Members of Parliament out of the total 275 seats in parliament.
The party has already held primaries for orphan constituencies; areas that did not have sitting Members of Parliament.
