As part of the New Patriotic Party’s primaries to elect candidates who will run on the ticket of the party in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in December this year, nominations have been opened for individuals who wish to run as the party’s presidential candidate.
Speaking on United Televisions Late News discussions Monday, the director of research and elections for the party, Mr. Evans Nimako, the rules of engagement for the election of a presidential candidate has been set by the national executive committee of the party.
According to him presidential candidacy nominations were opened from yesterday 21st January and will end on February 20th this year. Any party member of good standing and is qualified to run for president as stipulated in the Constitution of Ghana and is 40 years and above can purchase a form.
VETTING
The committee is made of national council committee heads. Finance committee head is part. Organizational committee head, research and elections committee chair, disciplinary committee chair, council of elders chair and other heads are all part. Hon. Peter Mac-Manu is the head of the chair of the national vetting committee.
He said also said arrangements are that everyone who is interested can pick up forms from the office of the party’s general secretary at a cost of 20000 Ghana Cedis and file the forms at 200,000 Ghana Cedis.
Conduct Of The Elections
Elections will be held at all constituency headquarters where about 149,907 delegates are expected to vote in the primaries.
So far, the only person who has made his intentions clear on running is the sitting president, His Excellency Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo Addo. His supporters are going into the elections with the mantra “Four More For Nana”.
