Some members of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) have kicked against what they call an imposition of a new constitution by its leadership.
The group comprising Central Committee members of the Union complained that the new amendment is alien and gives too much power to the president.
“We the leaders of the various institutions shall never be bullied into silence”, the members said in a statement giving a 48-hour ultimatum to Co-Executives to withdraw and apologize to members.
They accused some of their fellow members of clandestinely pushing for the acceptance of the legal document, a move they have vowed to fiercely resist.
“We see this act of the executives as a breach of law, abuse of office and disrespect for student leaders whom they’re serving”.
The development comes following assurances by executives of NUGS to resolve a long standing turmoil that appear to have grounded the student body— which used to be vibrant in recent times.
Some have blamed the political interference as the cause of their woes.
