Some 21 people suspected to have been camped by the Western Togoland separatists, advocating for a separation of part of the Volta Region from Ghana were arrested at a forest hideout in Dodze, near Togo, Monday.
According to the Minister for Information, these people were planning to use force to call in a bid to reinforce their call for a separate state from Ghana; Western Togoland.
“Recently, our intelligence apparatus picked up information that they are training some people somewhere in Dodze, close to Togo. So the intelligence apparatus was activated and we got to know where they were camped. Yesterday, an intelligence team from the armed forces, national security and others conducted a raid on them where they initially got 20 out of a suspected 25 accomplices” he said adding as the operation continued, one person was arrested who was part of the five that run away initially.

The militia trainers and trainees have been brought to Accra to be interrogated by the BNI and other agencies before they will prosecuted. Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said there’s still a man hunt for those who escaped.
Sharing an insight with Peace Fm’s Kwame Sefa Kayi on the Kokrokoo Morning Show, the minister of information said one lady accomplice said sh was a teacher from Kasoa who ended up at the hideout his because someone offered to take her into the Military and asked her to pay some amount of money which she did but ended up at the said camp. Another male accomplice also claimed to be an Okada guy from Dodowa who also wanted to get into the army or police force and someone promised to help him get in. He was thus asked to come and pay an amount of money to get in and ended up at the hideout the said camp.

These happenings, the minister said were consistent with the intelligence initially gathered from people that victims were faling prey to a promise by peope o get themminto the military and other state security apparatus. These recruits further revealed that after getting into this scheme, they are camped in this forest where you are made to swear to some deities which makes leaving the place a hard thing to do for the recruits.
“We will take this opportunity to caution Ghanaians that when the security agencies are recruiting, they advertise so anyone who comes to tell you about any protocol somewhere so pay some amount of money to get in or something, you might end up in an insurgent group that could end you up in trouble” adding that citizens should be assured of the fact that the country’s security apparatus is working hard to ensure safety” he concluded calling on citizens to alert the security in case they see any suspected activities going on.
