Speaker Mike Oquaye has recalled MPs to the House, three days after he suspended sitting indefinitely.
In a communique to Members of Parliament, MPs, the Speaker invoked his rights under Order Six of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
“I, Right Honourable Professor Aaron Michael Oquaye, Speaker of Parliament, do hereby direct that, the parliament of Ghana shall, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, resume sittings of the first meeting of the fourth session… on Wednesday, the 8th of April 2020…” he wrote.
MPs are being called to approve some of the measures to contain the Covid-19 outbreak which President Nana Akufo-Addo announced in his address to the nation on Sunday.
The House, is also expected to approve the appointment of Ledzokuku MP, Bernard Okoe-Boye as Deputy Health Minister.
Dr. Okoe-Boye’s appointment was announced in a statement from the Jubilee House on Monday April 6, 2020.
He replaces Alexander Abban who has been reshuffled and now serves as the Deputy Communications Minister.
Meanwhile, Minority MPs are unhappy with Speaker of Parliament, Aaron Mike Oquaye’s decision to recall the House three days after suspending sitting indefinitely.

Some of the lawmakers who spoke to JoyNews expressed reservations about honouring the Speaker’s call to be in Parliament on Wednesday, April 8.
Ranking Member on the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament, James Agalga, captioned the recall as “unfortunate.”
The Builsa North MP, said he is yet to decide whether or not to be in the House on Wednesday.
According to the Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, some MPs have traveled long distances to their constituencies and would be inconvenienced.
