In the wake of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana, President Akufo-Addo in his address to the nation Sunday, has commended two young Ghanaians for their inventions aimed at tackling the problem of hand washing.
The three Young Ghanaian Inventors are Jude Osei, Kelvin Owusu Dapaah and Richard Boateng from the Ashanti Region.
“I’m equally impressed with the invention of a solar-powered hand-washing sink by Jude Osei from Kumasi and the Covid-19 prevention electronic bucket made by Kelvin Owusu Dapaah and Richard Boateng, both students of the Obuasi Senior High and Technical School. Necessity indeed, is the mother of invention as the Ghanaian sense of enterprise and innovation is beginning to be felt” he commend the Young Ghanaian Inventors

Jude Osei’s invention as mentioned is a solar-powered hand washing sink made with a metallic drum and has sensors and cables that connect to the solar panel on top which allows water and soap to flow automatically for hand washing. The system allows for a 25 seconds period of handwashing before rinsing begins.
Kelvin Owusu Dapaah and Richard Boateng are members of the Obuasi Secondary Technical School’s Robotics Club. Their electronic bucket allows users to wash their hands without having to touch the tap in the process.
Both inventions will help control strongly the spread of the disease as one would not have to touch the tap which stands the threat of having infected persons spreading the coronavirus which is able to survive on surfaces for 10 days.
