Starting Monday, 15th June,2020 schools in the country are going to resume their activities which were halted due to the president’s order to ban public gatherings in accordance with restrictive measures taken by the country to control the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.
President Akufo-Addo announced this in his 10th address to the nation Sunday on measures put in place by the country to fight the pandemic.
The reopening for now will be for only final year basic, second cycle and tertiary institutions.
“From Monday, 15th June, 2020, the decision has been taken, after engagement with the Teacher Unions, whose co-operation I salute, to re-open schools and universities to allow for final year junior high, senior high and university students to resume classes ahead of the conduct of their respective exit examinations” he said

Final year tertiary students including educational and training institutions managed by other ministries than the ministry of education are to resume on the 15th of June whiles final year students of SHS 3 together with SHS 2 Gold track students are to report on the 22nd of June, 2020. JHS 3 students will be the last to resume school on the 29th of June, 2020.
In addition to this, there shall be a maximum of 30 students per class for students in JHS 3, a maximum of 25 for SHS classes and a half-class size for all university students during lectures.

President Akufo-Addo also added “Again, prior to the opening of schools and universities, the Ministry of Education, and the heads of public and private educational institutions, will fumigate and disinfect their institutions. Each student, teacher, and non-teaching staff will be provided with re-usable face masks by the Ministry of Education. For the avoidance of doubt, all other educational facilities, private and public, for non-final year students, will remain closed. The Minister for Education, in the coming days, will outline, in detail, the specific guidelines for the safe reopening of our schools and universities”
He went on to call on all Ghanaians to now more than ever strictly adhere to enhanced hygiene and social protocol measures.
