The Inter-Party Resistance Against New Voters’ Register (IPRNA), has indicated at a press conference today, their readiness to embark on the “Y3mmpene Demonstration” in Kumasi Tomorrow.
This demonstration is the second in the series of three scheduled demonstrations which aims at preventing the electoral commission from compiling a new voters register ahead of the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
Speaking at the press conference in Kumasi today, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketsiah, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress-one of the leading parties in the IPRNA- indicated their readiness was as a result of the EC’s refusal to cooperate with the parties involved in the demonstrations.
“If you have come with an opinion that the existing register is not good, you should have brought it for considerations with all stakeholders. Then we will all bring in our experts to study the machines. If they all come and confirm that there are problems with the machines, then there will be no need for misunderstanding because everyone has a representative in there before we can all consider once more if there are alternative ways to go about the problems such that a new register will be better than the existing one” he said.
