Three workers of the West Africa Mills Company (WAMCO, in Takoradi died upon arrival in hospital when the bus they were travelling in collided head on with a military Ambulance at Komenda Sefwi.
The incident happened on Thursday, July 14, on the Takoradi-Cape Coast Highway.
Seventeen of the workers sustained various degrees of injuries with 10 in critical condition.
The 22 workers were on their way to Parliament for a follow up on a petition they submitted concerning the factory.
Information gathered by the Ghana News Agency indicated that the factory had been shut down for almost 28 months, rendering the workers jobless.
The workers were therefore lobbying for the factory to resume operations.
Mr Stephen Anokye, Central Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission said the accident occurred around 0300 hours.
He said the military ambulance with registration number 42 GA57 was travelling from Accra to Takoradi while the bus with registration number CR 1219-14 coming from Takoradi to Accra.
He said the two cars had a head on collision after which the bus run into a faulty car parked along the road at Komenda Sefwi.
He said five of the victims were rushed to Effia Nkwanta hospital in Takoradi while 18, including the driver of the military ambulance and military paramedics were taken to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for treatment.
He appealed to the Motor Traffic Unit of the Ghana Police Service to ensure that vehicles spoilt along the road are removed.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the hospital Morgue for autopsy.
