Wa Tennis Club crowned winners of the 2019 Northern Tripartite Tennis Tournament at the Wa tennis club house over the weekend.
The host Wa tennis Club, Bolga Tennis Club and Temale tennis club all tied on points after both clubs won ten games but the technical team had to decide with technicalities and pronounce the host Wa tennis as winners after having the least number of game’s lost compared to Bolga tennis club and Temale tennis club.
In the singles game, Bolga tennis club showed scintillating performances by winning the singles 6 matches out of 15 games with the likes of Adam Zakariah beating inform Rev.Fr. Dr. Rufus Conrad 7-5. Charles Abugbila also beating Temale tennis club no.1 seed Sampson Sayibu who is also the executive member of Ghana Tennis Federation 7-5. Emmanuel Aliba defeating coach Dominic Amevor 7-5.
Temale tennis club came second in the singles game after 5 wins with some superb performances from Rahaman Salifu beating Rufus Bayor of Wa tennis club 7-2. Sampson Sayibu ousted Ohene Joseph 7-3.
Host, Wa tennis club, were not able to match the strength from the two clubs(Bolga and Temale) and won 4 games in the singles with some wins coming from Coach Dominic Amevor surpassing Dr. Mohammed Sulemana of Tamale tennis club 7-3. Bayor Rufus beat Matthew Nyaaba of Bolga tennis club 7-3. Rev. Fr. Dr. Rufus Conrad also came away with a 7-2 win over James.
In the doubles event: Host Wa tennis club coach Dominic Amevor initiated some technical instructions for the club to outclass his fellow coaches and won most of their matches 7-0 against Bolga and Tamale tennis club. Followed by Tamale tennis club with 5 wins whiles defending champions Bolga had 4 wins.
In the ball boys tourney: Bolga tennis club showed their superiority over Tamale tennis club and host Wa tennis club.
Speaking after the events, President of Wa Tennis Club Ahlex Kontor expressed his appreciation to Bolga Tennis Club and Tamale Tennis Club for making the tournament very entertaining and successful.
After donating balls and t-shirts to the ball boys by Ghana Tennis Federation president, Mr. Isaac Aboagye Duah said, “ I am the first GTF president to attend this tripartite for the past three years’.
He further added that, “The Federation has plans to extend tennis into schools sports programs in the Northern part of the country and therefore advices the three Northern clubs to embrace this initiative by the federation.”
