Founder and leader of the Royalhouse Chapel International, Apostle Sam Korankye Ankrah has bemoaned the negative effects of the ‘Winner-Takes-All’ political system in Ghana which he believes is a cause of some problems we face in the country.
Speaking with the host of Point of View, Bernard Avle, a part of his 60th birthday anniversary, Wednesday, the Apostle General said this system of political governance has been a major contributing factor to the polarized system where everything is dealt with along political lines.
“Why should the winner take all and alienate and call these people [political opponents] enemies? To the extent that ever since we entered into our democratic dispensation, I have never, one single day, sit on television watching Metro TV, TV3, GTV; where I will see an opposition party, speaking well of the incumbent doing well. Every time, it is negative, negative, negative, negative. When he [incumbent] also comes into opposition, the same thing he does. And so everyday, it is like people are looking for the wrong thing he is doing; they will hammer on the wrong thing just to get him out so that he comes in…” he said

By this, he was of the view that if the constitution of Ghana can be reviewed to make way for such systems that will control this ‘winner-takes-all’ system. He sited the power of the president to appoint as an example saying that some appointments must be done through an internal mechanism process and not some appointments must be done through an internal mechanism process that does not need to be added to the power of the president to appoint. He said “We also have to look at the powers of the presidency. I think that they have too much power. Power to appoint the Inspector General of Police, power to appoint the head of army; the institutions must have a way of running themselves…choose your cabinet and that should” questioning why a civil service position like that of a chief director be a political position?

Corruption
Speaking on the subject matter of corruption, Apostle Korankye Ankrah said in order to deter people from indulging in such acts which have bedeviled the country for so long, the laws must bite. According to him the problem in the case of Ghana has been that when one is caught to be indulging in corrupt practices, others who come in do so to help such culprits get “off the hook” to go scot-free.

“I advocate on this occasion, that if the law will be applied a little bit to bite more, it will shake people and people will sit up. Otherwise, humans as we are, human beings will always do things in their own way. Human beings greed will always be at the fore.” he added maintaining that when people falter, the law must be allowed to take its course.
He also advised colleague ministers of the gospel to at all times remain neutral on political line and rather serve as the unifier of the various political fronts. He went on to add that especially in an election year like this, messages must be structured in such a way that promotes peace and unity at all times.
