Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality, Yamoah Ponkoh has lamented the uneasiness for Ghanaians to live comfortable lives in the country under President Akufo-Addo with the recent hike in fuel price.
According to him, nothing seems to work well in the country anymore under President Akufo-Addo in spite of the fact that Ghanaians have consistently complained of the economic hardship inflicted on them.
“Nothing is working well in this country and we have been complaining consistently but nothing seems to change, but we will continue to say it till we see a change in the country. NPP condemned fuel price hikes under former President John Mahama and promised to reduce the prices of almost everything and develop the country within 18 months if they win power in the 2016 general elections. The issue is that we are judged by our own words,” he lamented.
He reiterated that the NDC acknowledges the need to increase fuel prices but then, President Akufo-Addo and his Vice President are being chastised on the promises they made to Ghanaians to reduce the prices of fuel and change the country positively within 18 months.
“Indeed, former President Mahama’s government increased fuel prices but he used the money to do developmental projects in the country for all to see them. The revenue from the oil sector from last year to today is more than any other government but ask yourself what those monies have been used for in this country,” he asserted.
He wondered why the Akufo-Addo government cannot use the huge revenue from the oil sector to make the fuel prices come down to the benefit of all Ghanaians.
He again claimed that apart from the huge revenue from the oil sector, the NPP-led Akufo-Addo government has borrowed more than $80 billion dollars and yet, the government cannot boast of any hospital, good roads and other necessary things which Ghanaians need.
